Increased Authentication

Increased Authentication provides an additional layer of security to the login process. This feature requires you to select an image, write a security phrase, and select three security questions.

How It Works

When you log into online banking from a computer that is not registered as trusted, you will have to answer one of your three security questions. You will then view your image and phrase, then enter your PAC. Do not enter your PAC if the wrong image is shown as this could indicate a security issue. Contact us if this happens.

Registering Your Computer for Faster Logins

You can speed up the login process by opting to register your computer.  When you log in from a registered computer, you don't have to answer a security question before viewing your personal image and entering your PAC.

Registering your home or personal computer is highly recommended for faster logins. You should not register shared or public computers.

Cookies are used to identify registered computers. If you clear your cookies, you will have to re-register your computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Increased Authentication?

Increased Authentication, sometimes called Enhanced Security, provides an additional level of security to the online banking log in process.  The additional security requires you to select an image from a library of pictures, write a security phrase and select three security questions from various category lists.

Why is the credit union implementing this enhanced security?

These features provide another level of protection against phishing scams.  It verifies to us that it's you accessing your account and it provides you with the assurance that you are at the real SDCU online banking website.

Do I have to register for Increased Authentication?

Yes, participation is mandatory for all members who use online banking.

Does it take a long time to register?

Setting up the new security features is quick and easy and will take just a few minutes.

Will the image I chose come up every time I go into online banking?

Yes, the image and caption will be on the screen every time you log in.

Do I have to answer a security question every time I log on?

You will have to answer a security question when you are signing in from a computer that you have not registered as a "trusted" computer.  If you have permanently registered your computer, you will not be asked a security question.  Registering your computer will place a permanent cookie on your computer for identification purposes.  Every time you clear your cookies, you will have to repeat the registration process.

Note: You should only register a computer if you are the owner or its sole user.  We recommend that you do not register computers that are shared, such as those found in libraries or shared work computers.
